Although Cadbury is a very large, multinational corporation, its has done a commendable job of implementing sustainable changes throughout the company. Cadbury intends to reduce its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2020. While reporting is clear and surprisingly transparent, Cadbury offers little specifics on how it intends to reach this goal. The company has already begun using carbon offsets and implementing sustainable energy practices, including the use of solar panels, solar heating, wind power and hydroelectric power generation, at several of its manufacturing sites across the globe. Cadbury has also implemented a water neutral strategy, in Australia and India, aiming to reduce water usage by an additional 20% by 2020. In 2008, the new "eco-eggs" called Cadbury Treasure Eggs were packaged with over 75% less plastic and 65% less cardboard than its standard egg, saving more than 2,000 trees. Hopefully, Cadbury will continue to show great progress.

Full Social Record

Cadbury is one of the first large confectioners to adopt a fair trade policy. The corporation has decided to buy cocoa from 57% of cocoa farmers under fair trade agreements. Through its cocoa partnership, Cadbury also provides assistance to many farmers in Africa, India, Indonesia and the Caribbean. Cadbury is one of the few remaining top 100 companies in the UK that provide final-salary pensions. On the other hand, Cadbury has had several incidents in the past regarding food contamination. In Europe, its production facilities have been compromised with salmonella, sickening many people and requiring the company to pay a 1 million pound fine. In a Beijing manufacturing plant, tainted milk sources led to an additional recall of products. Cadbury needs to take hygiene protocol and product testing more seriously and have a higher regard for consumers' health.
